“The Greatest Game Ever Played” is based on the first amateur to win a U.S. Open, Francis Ouimet, whose humble roots began as a caddy at Brookline’s nationally and historically recognized The Country Club. Years later, Francis Ouimet would return to The Country Club to defeat British world champion golfers Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. The Country Club is one of the oldest country clubs in the United States and is a must-visit for any golfer or golf fan considering moving to Brookline.
For families with teens, another iconic movies setting takes place right at Brookline High School. Hilary Swank’s breakout role has her star as Julie Pierce with Mr. Miyagi in “The Next Karate Kid,” with high school scenes filmed both in and around the campus. Brookline High School can also be seen as Lucy’s high school in the 2007 Beatles musical film, “Across the Universe.”
One of the most recent movies featuring Brookline was 2013’s “American Hustle,” starring renowned celebrities Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams. The infamous pool party scene where Bale’s character locks eyes with Adams was filmed in the sprawling 1930’s mansion on Dudley Street. As the characters strike up a heated conversation in the pool house, the stage is set for their fiery relationship that defines much of the movie.
Idyllic, delightful, and ever a movie-hotspot with its unique charm, Brookline has more to offer than great settings for favorite films.
